JUDAS PRIEST
Black Sabbath were the unabashed high priests of 70s downer-rock but fellow Brummies Judas Priest soon elevated their status when vocalist Rob Halford replaced Al Atkins. Here we have two historically important sets recorded four days apart in April '73 with 'Morpheus', recorded at Birmingham's Hippodrome, representing Atkins' last stand before the self-confessed 'nervous' Halford officially fronts the band at The Townhouse, Wellington on the 19th when backing Budgie. Priest die-hards will be delighted to know that both gigs were recorded in full at this crucial crossover period and the precise time-frame of Halford's introduction can now be pinpointed.

FLYING HAT BAND
A true downer-rock band in every sense. Merlin was also the name of Tipton's former band that morphed into the FHB, a killer outfit graced by a slew of first-rate musicians including Carl Palmer's brother Steve and bassist Peter 'Mars' Cowling. The entire live set of this raucous Midlands gig was recorded and further FHB material can be heard on our 'Downer-Rock Genocide' and 'Necrocopia' comps.
